Cable Recommendations

  • There are 3 different types of cables that can be used with 3Dio microphones. You can purchase all of these cables here.

    3.5mm to 3.5mm M2M TRS
This cable is compatible with the FS, FS XLR & FS Pro II models. It is an unbalanced, stereo cable. When using this cable, the 9V battery inside the microphone must be utilized to power the capsules and therefore the 3Dio power switch must be in the ON position.

We recommended this cable for connecting the FS, FS XLR & FS Pro II to digital recorders & consumer DSLR cameras. The shorter the cable, the better. If the cable is long, it may be more susceptible to picking up RFI (Radio Frequency Interference).

    3.5mm to 3.5mm M2M TRS Cable

3.5mm to Dual 1/4" Stereo Splitter Cable
This cable is compatible with the FS, FS XLR & FS Pro II models. It is an unbalanced, stereo splitter cable that breaks out the left and right channels into separate connectors. When using this cable, the 9V battery inside the microphone must be utilized to power the capsules and therefore the 3Dio power switch must be in the ON position.

We recommended this cable for connecting the 3Dio FS microphone to audio interfaces & mixing consoles. Just like the 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, the shorter, the better. If the cable is long, it may be more susceptible to picking up RFI (Radio Frequency Interference).

3.5mm to dual 1/4" Stereo Splitter Cable

    XLR Cable
This cable is compatible with the FS XLR & FS Pro II models. It is a balanced mono cable used in most professional settings, provides a high quality audio signal and is shielded to protect against RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) and other noise that may leak into the audio signal. These cables can be long (up to 100' without any signal loss). There are two (2) XLR outputs on the FS XLR & FS Pro II models, one for each ear.

We recommend these cables for connecting the FS XLR & FS Pro II models to audio interfaces & mixing consoles.

  • hi there! I recently received the FS mic as a gift, however the cable was missing. I purchased a third party 3.5mm cable and connected the mic to my Tascam dr-05x, however the audio was very weak. It was hard to hear the sounds unless the mic is right next to the sound source. I was wondering if there are any other ways to get a working cable that is compatible with the tascam & the 3dio in Australia as shipping costs $100+ :(

I've seen many cables being sold but I'm worried that it won't work well with the microphone.

  • Hi @nghi le,

If the audio signal is weak, it is most likely due to a weak or dead 9V battery inside the mic.

The 3.5mm output on all of our microphones is powered by a 9V battery inside the mic. To access the battery, simply remove the 4 screws on the top of the microphone's center enclosure. This will allow you to remove the lid and replace the battery.

If that doesn't fix it, be sure to check the Tascam's gain setting for an external microphone. You can find the details for how to adjust this in the DR-05X product manual. If the gain setting is low, the microphone will always sound quiet.

If neither of these result in the microphone working properly, please let us know and we can continue to help troubleshoot.

    Best regards,
    ~Brian
