All 3Dio FS series microphones are compatible with the Zoom H4n. There are 3 input types on the H4n:
- Stereo 3.5mm external microphone input
- Two (2) 1/4" (6.35mm) mono inputs
- Two (2) 3-pin XLR mono inputs
Here are the different ways you can connect each 3Dio model.
FS | FS XLR | FS Pro II
- Plug one end of the cable into the 3.5mm output of the 3Dio.
- Plug the other end of the cable into the EXT MIC input on the back of the H4n.
- Turn the 3Dio power switch to the ON position.
- Turn the Zoom H4n power switch to the ON position.
- Confirm that the Zoom H4n is in STEREO mode.
- Press the MIC button on the H4n.
- Plug headphones into the headphone output jack.
- Adjust the REC LEVEL and VOLUME settings accordingly to suit your needs.
3.5mm to dual 1/4" (6.35mm) Stereo Splitter Cable
- Plug the 3.5mm end of the cable into the 3.5mm output of the 3Dio.
- Plug the white (sometimes black) 1/4" connector into CH1 combo input on the bottom of the H4n.
- Plug the red 1/4" connector into CH2 combo input on the bottom fo the H4n.
- Turn the 3Dio power switch to the ON position.
- Turn the Zoom H4n power switch to the ON position.
- Confirm that the Zoom H4n is in STEREO mode.
- Press the 1 & 2 buttons below the LCD screen to activate track 1 & 2.
- Plug headphones into the headphone output jack.
- Adjust the REC LEVEL and VOLUME settings accordingly to suit your needs.
FS XLR | FS Pro II
- Connect both XLR cables to the 3Dio.
- Connect the Left Ear XLR cable to the CH1 combo input on the bottom of the H4n.
- Connect the Right Ear XLR cable to the CH2 combo input on the bottom of the H4n.
- Turn the 3Dio power switch to the OFF position.
- Turn the Zoom H4n power switch to the ON position.
- Confirm that the Zoom H4n is in STEREO mode.
- Press the 1 & 2 buttons below the LCD screen to activate track 1 & 2.
- Press the Menu button on the side to access the H4n menu.
- From the main menu, rotate the dial until 'INPUT' is highlighted. Push in on the dial to select.
- Rotate the dial until 'PHANTOM' is highlighted. Push in on the dial to select.
- Rotate the dial until '48V' is highlighted. Push in on the dial to select.
- Press the menu button several times to exit the menu.
- Plug headphones into the headphone output jack.
- Adjust the REC LEVEL and VOLUME settings accordingly to suit your needs.
