Is it possible to swap out the pinnae for, for example, the pinnae from a Neumann KU100?

Hi @Joseph Giacoio,
Thanks for the question.
That is not something we offer, but technically this could be done. The KU100 pinnae would have to be adapted to our disc design, and would require the 3D designs as well. There's no guarantee that it would sound great, but yes, it could be done with the right resources.
I hope that answers your question.

Brian; thank you for the response.
What do you mean by "would require the 3D designs"?
Im a grad school student in Spatial Audio and have the opportunity to have my pinnae scanned and 3d printed. Ideally I would like to use these on the 3Dio.
Thanks
Joe
Hi @Joseph Giacoio,
I meant the 3D design of the KU100 pinnae. My apologies, I thought you were asking how you could place the KU100 pinnae onto a 3Dio mic.
If I understand you correctly, you would like to use your own pinnae on a 3Dio? To use any pinnae on a 3Dio, you would need 3D scans of an ear, which it sounds like you will be able to acquire.
From there, you would need to take the 3D pinnae and add the disc design identical to the 3Dio, matching the disc thickness, diameter, and mounting hole spacing and diameter as well.
Once you have that, simply create an inverse mold with something like polyurethane. Then you can use that inverse mold to pour the final silicone ear mold.
If you want the specs for the disc, please send us an email at customercare@3diosound.com and reference this thread.
Thank you,
~Brian
