I'd like to use the 3Dio device to make some recordings of other on ear hearing devices. Are the 3Dio microphone capsules located directly at the opening of the ear or is there a emulated ear canal as well? I cannot tell from the pictures.

Great question. The capsules on our current model are located right where the ear canal on a human ear begins. Therefore, there really isn't room for an in-ear monitor or ear bud. Over-the-ear and on-ear headphones work great however.
