If you are looking for the best binaural microphone on the market, look no further than the 3Dio FS Pro II binaural microphone. The FS Pro II features two matched DPA 4060 CORE hi-sensitivity capsules mounted inside each ear canal delivering a very sensitive and natural binaural sound. The flat frequency response and dynamic range of the capsules results in a very open and dynamic binaural realism, especially during very delicate recordings. With a wide dynamic range, the FS Pro II ideally is suited for professional recording studios, content creators, filmmakers, field recordists, and sound designers that are looking for an immersive binaural soundscape. Providing an amazingly rich and silky smooth sound, it delivers flawless performance with pristine highs and a rumbling low-end.
What is Binaural?
Binaural is a recording technique that involves capturing sound using a stereo binaural microphone that is shaped and configured like two human ears. The 3Dio FS Pro II binaural microphone is a special stereo microphone that contains two prosthetic, human-shaped ears with microphone capsules embedded inside each ear canal. Binaural microphones capture audio the same way your real ears hear sounds. Incoming sound waves are changed by the ear-shaped pinna of the microphone, just like your ears would change the incoming sound waves. Our brains understand these changes as directional cues that allow us to pinpoint precise locations of any given sound. When you listen to binaural recordings using headphones, the result is a natural three-dimensional sound that gives the listener the sensation of being in the space where the audio was recorded.
How Does it Work?
The FS Pro II binaural microphone can be powered by the pre-installed 9V battery or phantom power via the XLR outputs. With the power switch in the ON position, the battery will last 300+ hours of continuous use (3.5mm output only). The microphone also includes a bass roll-off switch with a knee point of 160 hz (1/8" output only). The microphone has two (2) Male 3-pin XLR outputs, one for each ear.
XLR Outputs
The FS Pro II includes two balanced XLR outputs, one for each ear, that support phantom power. Power the Free Space Pro II using the 48V supply from an audio interface, digital recorder or mixing console. The Free Space Pro II also includes an 1/8" (3.5 mm) stereo output that is powered by the internal 9V battery. The phantom power works regardless of the state of the 9V battery.
Mounting
The Free Space Pro II comes standard with a 5/8" microphone stand adapter installed in the base. The microphone stand adapter is removable. The base of the microphone has a 1/4"-20 female thread mounting hole that can be connected to a hot-shoe adapter or used to mount directly onto a tripod or grip handle.
Battery
The FS Pro II contains a 9V alkaline battery within the chassis. The battery is used to power the microphone capsules for the 1/8" (3.5 mm) output only when the power switch is in the ON position. A brand new battery will provide 300+ hours of continuous use.
Microphone Capsules
The Free Space Pro II uses matched DPA 4060 hi-sensitivity capsules.
