Add XLR?

  • Hello, While I ideally would like to have the Free Space 2, I found a 3Dio Free Space microphone secondhand to start a YouTube channel(Binaural Escape) and so far it has served me rather well. I use the 3.5mm microphone input on the Canon R50 for the 3Dio mic and a Zoom H6 for any XLR inputs that I need. When replacing the battery, I noticed there are XLR solder points on the board. Are they functional? and will phantom power work if I were to add XLR outputs to my microphone? Would there be enough of a notable difference in audio quality between the XLR and 3.5mm?

  • Hi @Josey Bowman,

Great question! Those solder points are used to connect to a separate circuit board that we use in the XLR model. Connecting XLR outputs directly to these solder points would not work and we do not recommend it.

There is a noticable difference between the XLR outputs and the 3.5mm output. The XLR outputs have a wider dynamic range and a lower noise floor.

I hope this information helps. Let us know if you have any further questions.

    Best regards,

    ~Brian
